I really do love my creative magazines. Two I really, really love. Four times a year, I look forward to receiving my Crochet! copy. I get this subscription because I’m a member of CGOA. This quarter didn’t disappoint. I have to say, I’m in love with the front cover’s sweater. I may have to make that for myself. Now, I say this for two reasons. 1) I can’t stop staring at the sweater and I’ve read the pattern like 10 times by now and 2) I really never make anything for myself. Everything I make is for my art, for the shop, for gifts or as special requests. To date, I have made exactly one thing for myself. A colour block afghan, and that was about 2 years ago. Really. So I’m thinking it may be time to splurge on myself and create this beauty, maybe in a purple or even dark green. Oooh I know, turquoise!! See the ideas are already flowing. The pages of this magazine are all tattered and flipped, I think I’ve had this maybe a week or two. Poor little magazine.
My other fav is my digital subscription to Beadwork. This little magazine lucks out and doesn’t get all tattered up from my constant flipping of the pages because it’s on my iPad. But my ooh’s and ahh’s are just as many. One of my favourite parts of Beadwork is “the challenge” section. This is where four people receive the same set of beads and get to go wild with their imaginations and come up with new jewelry pieces. I’m amazed at the variations and beauty that are designed by each person. I always, always flip here first. It would take me forever to go thru all the ideas and pretty designs I end up drooling over, but you get the gist. It’s full of sparkly, shiny, detailed and delicate jewelry pieces and the patterns to make many of them too. I find that the bead patterns in Beadwork are super easy to follow and my items always come out looking great. But again, I’ve never made anything for myself from these lovely pages. I really should change that. Maybe I should make a nice pair of earrings to go with that sweater I’m making for myself….. Oh the ideas…..
